About Web Communications

Formed in the spring of 2005, the Web Communications team is the leader of developing and implementing the University-wide Web strategy.

Comprised of both Web developers and content producers, the Web Communications team strives to make use of emerging technologies to engage Web users with the Tufts story.

On the content end, our team is constantly looking for new platforms to showcase Tufts-related news and redefining the idea of storytelling. Over the past several years, our team has worked toward keeping the university ahead of the curve, using emerging social media tools such as Twitter and Facebook to engage new audiences.

Along with traditional written pieces, we continue to expand our multimedia production skills , providing viewers with new and exciting ways to share in the Tufts story.

When it comes to programming and application development, our team of developers has spent countless hours creating programs and tools that have made the university's Web sites more dynamic and easier to maintain.

Through our Tufts.mobi mobile web site, we have been able to offer mobile access to the Tufts white pages, news updates and the JoeyTracker which allows you to know where the Joey is no matter your location on, or off, campus. Our hope is to continue to adapt this site as the mobile community continues to grow and the platform becomes more and more popular.
maps
The creation of an enhanced interactive campus maps application powered by Google Maps, has allowed users to search for locations by building or office, see what offices are in which building, get directions and find parking or public transit options.

In 2009, in collaboration with the Publications department, we unveiled the new Tufts homepage , creating a new online experience for users that is as dynamic, engaging and innovative as the actual Tufts experience. As part of the process, the university's upper level pages were also enhanced to include new features such as new searchable databases for both majors and minors offered at the university and its offices and services .

With an eye toward the future, our team plans to work hard at making sure Tufts continues to have an innovative and powerful presence on the Web.

Is this thing on?
Welcome to the second reincarnation of the blog for the Office of Web Communications. We hope to use this little slice of web-dom to talk about cool apps, communications trends, spiffy accomplishments, nifty things our colleagues at Tufts are doing on the web and whatever else comes to mind.
