PostService Policy

NOTE: As of September 24, 2007, PostService messages will no longer be delivered individually. Instead, announcements will be grouped in a weekly e-mail that Tufts faculty and staff will receive at the beginning of each week.

General Description

The University Relations department generates PostService e-mail announcements.

  • Event listings may be posted to the University Events Calendar at http://events.tufts.edu.
  • The Human Resources department produces mailing labels for paper material delivered through campus mail.

Approval Guidelines

PostService is to be used for university business only. Requests must be made by a Tufts employee and include an employee name, which will be used at the beginning of the announcement text.

PostService will not be provided to further a political position, endorse a product or service, or raise money for other organizations (with the exception of the Tufts Community Appeal). These are examples only. The University Relations department reserves the right to approve, deny, or limit use of these services.

How to Make a Request

Requests must be submitted by Friday at 12PM for inclusion in the following week's PostService e-mail. When the volume of requests is high, University Relations may hold announcements that are not time sensitive until the following week.

PostService messages are used to communicate university business and policy announcements such as a new university policy or a change to an existing policy or practice, or to announce a new hire or reorganization where the individuals involved have broad, university-wide impact. An appropriate audience for these announcements can be selected. In the weekly e-mail, announcements will be broken down by campus. The full text of the announcement will include additional information about the intended audience.

Audiences

Communications should be limited to the smallest appropriate audience. Groups available for selection include:

  • Campus (Medford, Boston, Grafton or all campuses)
  • Employee type (faculty, staff or both)

PostService messages are not to be sent to a single school, however, you may use our online request form to submit your request to the approriate school representative. Just select "Specific School or Central Administration only" from the dropdown list next to "Main Recipient" on the online request form.

Sending a Postservice Mailing

Announcements will be included in a weekly e-mail from the sender "Postservice@tufts.edu". Each item will include a subject line, summary text and a link to the full announcement.

PostService is not an emergency broadcast system; all approved announcements will be sent on Monday. If Monday is a University holiday, announcements will be sent on Tuesday. In rare cases, University Relations may approve an individual announcement for delivery outside of the weekly e-mail.

While attachments cannot be sent with PostService emails, users may include links to files posted on their department website.

Event Listings

Events listings can be submitted to the Tufts University events calendar via an online events submission form.

Postservice Request Form
